Watford needed a first goal for the club from Rocco Vata in the 88th minute to salvage a point in a 1-1 draw at Hull City.

The home side looked like they would punish a lack-lustre display from the Hornets when they went ahead with nine minutes left, and were on course for a first win since October 1.

However, Vata combined with fellow sub Kwadwo Baah to spare Watford’s blushes.

There were two changes to the team which drew 0-0 with QPR at Vicarage Road 10 days ago.

Jeremy Ngakia started his first game since August 17, replacing Ryan Andrews, while Tom Ince was alongside Giorgi Chakvetadze in the two No.10 roles.

That meant Edo Kayembe dropped deeper, and that saw Moussa Sissoko on the bench.

There was still no place in the 20-man squad for Daniel Jebbison.

The first half was a pretty tame affair and, after surviving a scare in the first minute, Watford had the better of it without really asking too many questions.

Hull grew in confidence as Watford looked less and less likely to make the breakthrough and although their goal had a good chunk of luck about it they earned it by taking more risks as the game wore on.

Stunned into action, Watford spared their own blushes when two of the second-half subs combined for the 88th-minute equaliser.

Here’s how the game unfolded:

1 - Great chance for Hull as Kamara cuts the ball back but Longman steers his shot wide of the goal.

4 - Hull almost caught playing triangles in their own box, but the sliding Ince can only knock the ball wide.

8 - Larouci's cross from the left is met with a half-volley at the back of the box from Ngakia that is deflected wide.

11 - Louza chips a cross towards the back post where Bayo rises well but heads wide.

18 - Ince hit a long diagonal to Larouci, who laid it off to Chakvetadze, but his curling effort was too high.

23 - Kamara crossed from the left, it eluded everyone in the middle and Bachmann was glad to see it skip wide of the back post.

27 - Giles shoots from 25 yards but Bachmann saves comfortably.

Half-time – Hull 0 Watford 0

50 - After delivering another poor corner, Chakvetadze had the ball returned to him and he darted across the box before curling a shot onto the roof of the net.

54 - Hull broke with Watford having everyone forward and Pedro ran from just inside his own half as Kayembe chased. Bachmann came out pushed his angled shot round the post only for the officials to give a goal kick.

57 - Shot on target! Pollock feeds Louza who turns and fires an effort that is deflected through to Pandur.

64 - Coyle crossed to the back post but Longman headed straight at Bachmann.

68 - Another big save from Bachmann as he's off his line quick to smother a shot from Burstow.

77 - Kamara shoots from the corner of the box and the ball is deflected just over.

81 – Hull 1 (Bedia) Watford 0

That had been coming. A big element of luck as a cross is deflected onto Bedia, who knew little about it, and into the net.

88 – Hull 1 Watford 1 (Vata)

A typical surging run from Baah ends with him pulling the ball back for Vata to turn it into the net.
