Hull City winger Liam Millar has shared an update from his hospital bed after undergoing surgery on the knee injury he picked up in the 1-1 draw against Burnley last month.

The Canadian international, who was one of City's big summer arrivals, damaged his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) after just five minutes of the stalemate with the Clarets and, despite initially trying to play on, had to come off.

Millar underwent successful surgery on Tuesday morning and once recovered, will be able to begin the long road of getting back to full fitness, and making a welcome return to first team action for City.

"Very successful surgery! Thank you for everyone for your kind messages! I will be back soon," he wrote on Instagram before City's social media account offered their best wishes to the 24-year-old.

In the cruellest twists of fate, Millar will be joined on his road to recovery by fellow summer signing Mohamed Belloumi after he, too, suffered the same injury two weeks later. The Algerian winger went down in the final 10 minutes of last Tuesday's 1-0 defeat at Oxford United, and following scans, it was confirmed he had suffered an ACL injury, though it's unclear when he will undergo his operation.

Speaking to Hull Live about Millar's absence, boss Tim Walter joked the flying winger could come and help him in the coaching office, once he's back on his feet.

"I wish him all the best. He's so positive, and that's what I like very, very much; in Liam's case, now he is so open. He's tried to do every other thing, maybe to get to know more from the gaffer's side of things.

"It's good to have him; maybe a bit unlucky for him at this moment because of his injury, but he takes his time to get more positive with more different views, and I will help him in this case. I wish him all the best for the surgery, and we're looking forward to having him back."
