Hull City player ratings against Derby County as error costs them victory
Hull City were forced to settle for a point after being held to a 1-1 draw by Derby County at Pride Park on Saturday.
A what ended up being a fairly uneventful first period, the game sprung into life in the second period with Xavier Simons firing City in front with a fizzing low effort, only for the Rams to haul themselves level nine minutes later when Dajaune Brown looped a fine header over Ivor Pandur.
City had some moments to try and win the game, while they had to be resolute at the other end to keep out the Rams.
Here's how City reporter Barry Cooper rated the performances of the players at Pride Park Stadium....
Ivor Pandur 6
Early rish of blood to the head when he came belting out towards halfway, but Slater got him out of jail. Made a good save to deny Kane Wilson, but got away with a terrible clearance. Came out and then was lobbed by the equalising header.
Cody Drameh 7
Another really strong performance from the defender, playing out of position on the left.
Charlie Hughes 7
Bossed things in the first period, looked really strong and composed, something we've come to expect in these early displays. Booked in the second for a rough challenge
Alfie Jones 7
He looks so settled alongside Hughes and was impressive throughout, though he will be annoyed with losing Brown for the equalising goal.
Lewie Coyle 7
Tough start, skinned by Mendez-Laing early doors but recovered really well and gave another solid, dependable display.
Regan Slater 6
A day which saw Slater notch his 150th appearance for the Tigers, and averted a major catastrophe inside the opening 10 minutes. Looked a bit lost at times out on the right side when he moved there; came off at the break.
Xavier Simons 7.5
Kept at his task in the first period having started really brightly in the engine room. Fizzed in a belting strike to put City in front, and was then booked for a foul.
Gustavo Puerta 5
Battled hard early on amid what was a bright start before City faded and in truth, it looked like he was playing just a third Championship game in the space of a week.
Mohamed Belloumi 6
Mustered City's first attempt on target with a low effort from distance but faded badly for the rest of the first period. Teed up Simons, and then at 1-1, made a brilliant challenge with Derby on the break from a Tigers corner.
Abu Kamara 6
Saw plenty of ball in the first period, though couldn't make anything happen. Had City's best chance when he attacked down the left, but blazed miles over.
Chris Bedia 5
No lack of effort in the first period, but couldn't get much change from Curtis Nelson. Needs to put himself about a lot more, especially against physical defenders.
Subs:
Kasey Palmer (for Slater 46): On for the second half against his former club and started really well, heavily involved in a lot of what City did down the left, before fading. 6/10
Abdus Omur (for Puerta 46): He looked lost when he came on, bar a couple of neat touches and a clever foul won in stoppage time. You feel there's so much more in there than we're seeing. 5/10
Joao Pedro (for Bedia 63): Hustled his way up front in the closing stages but couldn't fashion anything of note. Gave away a daft foul deep in stoppage time, and was booked. 5/10
Mason Burstow (for Belloumi 81): Ran around a bit and tried to be a nuisance but was unable to get into the game in an attacking sense. 5/10
