Hull Kingston Rovers' effort to rename their postal address to Phil Lowe Way has made progress after councillors agreed in principle, at a meeting, to further consultation taking place.

The minutes are yet to be published, but the meeting agenda states that it was "to seek authorisation of the initiation of the statutory consultation process upon the proposal". Agreement at the meeting means that, now, statutory consultation can take place.

The club submitted a request to Hull City Council, seeking to change the name of Poorhouse Lane to Phil Lowe Way, in honour of the locally-born and legendary former Hull KR player who died in March this year aged 74. A meeting took place on Tuesday in which members of the council's East Area Committee agreed to the proposal in principle.

Hull KR chairman Paul Sewell had said in a speech at the club's awards night in September: "We know that, with a man like Phil Lowe, understatement is not appropriate. So we've started the process of changing our postal address from Poorhouse Lane to Phil Lowe Way. We think it's a good idea and I think you do too."
