Former Ireland international Simon Zebo says Wales star Jac Morgan is a 'shoo-in' for the Lions team next summer.

The 34-year-old, who retired from rugby at the end of last season, named Morgan as one of the key players he would take on next year's tour of Australia and said he "loves" watching him play.

After a tough year for Welsh rugby, which has seen the national team fall to a record 12 successive Test defeats, the Ospreys man is viewed as one of the few candidates from the current Wales squad who have a realistic chance of making the Lions team. The likes of Dewi Lake and Tomos Williams have been tipped to make the squad, while James Botham and Aaron Wainwright are also seen as contenders.

But former Munster star Zebo says he would like to see new Lions coach Andy Farrell name "loads of Welsh players" in his first squad next summer, with Morgan leading the way as a player he has "a lot of respect for".

Discussing his picks for the tour Down Under on the latest episode of the SportIn Wales podcast, the 35-cap international told host Alex Cuthbert: "I love Jac Morgan, I love watching him play. I think he's a shoo-in to be on the team.

"He's someone who properly hits you as well. He has a presence on the pitch and I have a lot of time for him and I respect him a lot. I would like to see loads of Welsh players in it."

Agreeing with him, Wales international Cuthbert said: "Yeah, it needs a few Welsh boys in the squad, more culturally as well. For morale! A few of the Welsh boys will be on nights out, they'll be the only ones that can join the Irish lot."

The former Ospreys man then shared his thoughts on Morgan, describing him as "some player". Recalling the first time he encountered the back rower, he added: "I remember the first week I signed for the Ospreys coming back, we had a few training sessions and I was saying to the older lads: 'who the hell is this bloke?'.

"He was just absolutely everywhere," Cuthbert continued. "But then when he hit you, you bloody felt it. Over the ball, ball in hand, he had everything. I would be surprised if he's not in and around [the Lions team], fighting against [Ireland's] Josh van der Flier but that's a tough job for Andy Farrell, isn't it?"
