The role of a goalkeeper has changed a lot in recent years as they are now expected to be as good with their feet as they are with their hands. It's no different in the Irish League with more teams keen to build from the back.

Coleraine's young custodian, Max Little, who is in his debut season in the Irish Premiership, is very comfortable with the ball at his feet and he feels making a late switch from being an outfield player to between the sticks has helped him with that.

"I think so, definitely," said the 22-year-old. "I think having the ball at your feet now is something key for a goalkeeper in the modern day, especially when you look at the top leagues.

"Growing up you're getting the ball in all different positions, so I think taking that from my game as a youngster into now is very important.

"I started off quite late as a goalkeeper. I switched when I was 16-years-old and then joined QPR at 17. Whenever I was younger, I played all different kinds of sports.

"However, when I started goalkeeping at 16 and joined QPR at 17, I thought I had to learn a lot and adapt quickly. I had to cram a lot of learning into a short space of time.

"It started out well, coronavirus >COVID hit whenever I was 17 but when I was at home I was watching videos and looking at other goalkeepers. I've managed to work with a lot of great goalkeepers in the last few years and learn a lot from them too.

"I've had experience in London and a couple of years in Scotland, so I feel from that time I've managed to watch other 'keepers and progress myself into something better. Hopefully, I can push on to be even better."
