Scotland will come into their fourth fixture of the Six Nations, against an improving Italy team, after two wins and one defeat in their opening three matches.

Gregor Townsend’s team started their campaign with a narrow 27-26 win over Wales before a 20-16 home defeat by France was followed by beating England 30-21 in the Calcutta Cup at Murrayfield.

Italy and Scotland meet on Saturday, March 9. The game will kick-off at 2.15pm GMT.

World Rugby has defended the new smart mouthguard system following criticism in the Six Nations led by Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend.

Scotland hooker George Turner became the first player in the championship to be forced off the field for a head injury assessment triggered by his mouthguard in the match against France.

Zander Fagerson was then removed from play in Scotland’s win over England after an alert from the new mouthpiece, which led to Townsend expressing caution over “trusting technology that has not been proven”.
