Jürgen Klopp has enjoyed an excellent relationship with his Liverpool squad during his Anfield tenure, as well as opposition players and rival managers. Yet he says he has never forgiven James Maddison after one particular incident.

Klopp will bid farewell to the Premier League this weekend when Liverpool hosts Wolves. It is sure to be an emotional occasion as the German is remembered for his nine trophy-laden seasons at Anfield.

The Reds have won the Premier League and Champions League under Klopp's stewardship but his side has come close to two more title celebrations, only to be pipped on the final day twice by Manchester City.

On one of those occasions, Liverpool actually beat Wolves on the final day but City also won at Brighton to claim the title. A key match in that run-in was Leicester's visit to the Etihad, which Pep Guardiola's men won 1-0 thanks to a long-range screamer from Vincent Kompany.

Tottenham midfielder Maddison was at Leicester during that season and Klopp says he has not been able to get over his role in that famous goal. He told Redmen TV: "The moment when Vincent Kompany touched the ball there, I am really happy I didn't get a stroke in that moment as that's how it must feel.

"I remember exactly how I was lying on the sofa watching and thinking 'Maddison block him, close him down'. Since then I don't like Maddison. I was angry with Brendan [Rodgers] that day because he should have taken him off, he was tired. It's just a personal thing, I have no problem with him, but when I see him it's... and now I saw him again last weekend!"

Maddison was at Leicester until last summer when he joined Tottenham in a $51m (£40m/€47m) deal. He started his season in superb fashion but has been unable to regain that form since returning from injury.

Liverpool.com says: Klopp's comments on Maddison were said in jest and Vincent Kompany still had an awful lot of work to do before City won on the final day. It was one of several near-misses during Klopp's tenure and Liverpool would have won a lot more, had it not been for City and Pep Guardiola.
