James Tavernier has revealed he's held talks with Rangers over a testimonial as he shrugged off talk of a megabucks move to Saudi Arabia.

Former Gers boss Steven Gerrard has been heavily linked with a summer swoop for Tavernier as Al Ettifaq chiefs prepare to back him with another gigantic transfer kitty. Reports in the Middle East suggest Gerrard will launch a move following next month's Scottish Cup Final against Celtic.

However, Philippe Clement has issued a hands off warning and told Gerrard it would take millions to tempt Rangers into parting ways with their record-breaking defender. And now, Tavernier says he's ready to see out the remaining two years of his contract at Ibrox ahead of his testimonial year next season.

The 32-year-old said: "I’ve got two seasons left on my contract at Rangers and we’re in talks about a testimonial. My contract is at Rangers and I am fully focused on the years ahead. I’m excited about the years ahead and what they can bring. My full focus is here.

“It’s something you don’t really see in football these days. It’s a rarity that you get a testimonial for players, and it’s another landmark. Ten years at a club is a benchmark and it’s something I’d like to see."

Asked if his head could ever be turned by a life-changing move to Saudi, he added: “Football talks and it can sometimes be out of your own control. But I’m a Rangers player and my full focus is here. I’ve got two seasons left, my family are settled and we’re loving life. This is my ninth season and I’ve always tried to better myself.”
