James Tavernier 'taken out of firing line' reckons former Rangers captain after further full-back rotation
Rangers captain James Tavernier was once again rotated with Dujon Sterling last night but former Ibrox skipper Barry Ferguson isn't overly surprised by the decision.
The full-back often splits decision amongst Rangers fans and pundits alike with some calling for him to be dropped permanently, while some reckon he must start every week. Now 33, Tavernier is up for a possible club testimonial following his years of service at Ibrox but he remains a controversial figure for the Ibrox faithful.
Ahead of their Scottish Premiership game on Sunday at home to Hearts, many are wondering if manager Philippe Clement will once again look to others in his squad to start in that right ful-back position. Speaking on Go Radio's Football Show, former Gers captain Barry Ferguson reckons he may have been dropped due to recent criticism, with ex-Celtic forward Andy Walker suggesting his time at the club is coming to a close.

Ferguson said: " [Dujon Sterling] did really well, looks strong at it right back. A bit surprised to see him come off, but I would imagine that's a niggly injury. I did hear the manager say that he has been carrying an injury for the last three or four weeks.
"And Kasanwirjo will come on it right back and done a fine job as well. So there's competition for places there and all the big talking points about the captain being left out. But remember, he is getting older and he's getting on a wee bit and maybe sometimes take him out the firing line because there's other players that can easily play in that position."
Andy Walker then added: "I think they're just trying to, I don't know, just find a different combination, a different understanding with people at the back. It's possible that Tavenier's time is coming to an end I know he's got a testimonial coming up but when you look at the way Rangers played last night when you looked at how comfortable they were at times against tough opposition, they won the Conference League last season, and just the way that they kept the ball
"The big thing for me was just the very basics of fight and determination and giving everything for your shirt just to chase a loose ball. I thought the wide players were good as well, Cerny, Bajrami. And in the middle of the park, you know, we've mentioned Connor Barron and [Nicolas] Raskin."
