Jarell Quansah gets welcome respite from Liverpool disappointment after Everton star's issue
Jarell Quansah was called up for England senior training on Tuesday as he put his recent disappointment at Liverpool behind him.
It’s been a mixed season for the 21-year-old so far. He signed a new contract back in October which will extend his stay at Anfield beyond 2026, although he has found his time on the pitch more frustrating.
Quansah was ruthlessly substituted at half-time of the opening game of the season against Ipswich, and has not been able to win his place in the side back from Ibrahima Konate since. He suffered another frustrating night in Liverpool’s Carabao Cup win at Brighton, where his mistake led to the hosts pulling a goal back before he saw a second strike deflect in off him in the final few minutes.

Quansah was substituted again by Slot that night, much to his disappointment, although the Liverpool boss did subsequently praise the academy graduate for his performance.
“In my opinion, he was unlucky, and I know you cannot judge a player on leaving those two moments out because they are so vital for results, but he is getting better and better, and he was already really good,” Slot said.
“For him, it’s that last step maybe to make, which he’s already shown in the past, that he can play a game without making these small mistakes.”
Nevertheless, appearances have been hard to come by for Quansah this season, having made just four so far for the Reds. He was handed a boost as he reported for international duty this week though.
With Everton’s Jarrard Branthwaite sitting out training ahead of England’s Nations League trip to Greece on Thursday, Quansah was called up from the U21s to train with Lee Carsley’s senior side. The 21-year-old will likely return to the Young Lions ahead of their games against Spain and the Netherlands.
England has been hit by a number of big names pulling out ahead of their final fixtures of the year. Trent Alexander-Arnold is one of eight players to have withdrawn from the squad after being forced off during the first half of Liverpool’s win over Aston Villa on Saturday.
Declan Rice, Phil Foden, Bukayo Saka, Cole Palmer, Jack Grealish, Levi Colwill and Aaron Ramsdal have also pulled out, with Morgan Rogers, Tino Livramento, Jarrod Bowen, James Trafford and Branthwaite being called up as a result.
