Jimmy Thelin saluted the spirit of Pittodrie as Aberdeen fans helped roar the Dons back to the top of the league.

The Red Army sold-out the stadium for a fourth consecutive match as Thelin's pacesetters bounced back from their 6-0 Hampden drubbing against Celtic in emphatic style. Aberdeen swept sorry Dundee aside 4-1 in a second-half goal blitz and Thelin believes the supporters were like a 12th man.

The Swede said: "It's still a long-term project. We lost one, but we have to use this spirit we have at Pittodrie right now. The fans have built this spirit for us to play in front of them and it was a sell-out again, I think for the fourth game in a row.

"We didn't play a perfect first half, and we needed Dimi Mitov to save the penalty, but the supporters pushed us after that. They stayed with us, they backed us, and we got into the dressing room and then went out and showed up like we did in the second half."

Aberdeen could head into the international break in top spot if Celtic fail to win away at Kilmarnock today. But level-headed Thelin insists he and his players won't be looking at the league table later today, with third-placed Rangers also in action at home to Hearts.

He added: "Actually, we don't talk about it at all. We try to be game-by-game and focus on the right things. We haven't played every team away and at home yet, so we have to just keep moving. But it's good to get a victory before the national team break and get some energy from that and good feelings, and then come back hopefully even stronger after the break."
