Joe Gomez has insisted that Liverpool is his "home" after hearing supporters chanting his name following yesterday's win against Brighton.

The Reds defender has found game time tough to come by so far this season and was even linked with a move away during the summer but has reaffirmed his commitment to the club with a heartfelt message.

The 27-year-old was lauded by the Anfield faithful for his dominant second-half display in Saturday's 2-1 victory over the Seagulls, having replaced the injured Ibrahima Konate at half-time with his side 1-0 down.

But Gomez had no issue coming on halfway through the tie, taking the game by the scruff of the neck and helping the Reds to an inspired second-half comeback. His performance was so good that it led the home fans to show their love for him by chanting his name after the full-time whistle.

And when asked how it felt to hear his name being sung from the stands, the long-serving defender told LFCTV: "It’s always special. Obviously this is home for me and the club means everything to me. But the most important thing, it’s cliché, but we got the win and we keep the momentum heading into a big game in the Champions League."

It wasn't just his own fans who were full of praise for Gomez, with Liverpool head coach Arne Slot also pleased with the versatile defender's performance in the second half of the 2-1 victory, which took his side back to the top of the Premier League.

"He had a very good performance without the ball," Slot said. "He constantly stepped into midfield to win the ball, winning the duels, and when he had to defend, he did very well. Very good second half."

Yesterday's showing was just Gomez's third Premier League appearance of the season and seventh in all competitions, having also featured off the bench twice in the Champions League and started both Carabao Cup victories over West Ham and Brighton.

But with Konate's injury potentially set to keep him out for a spell, the former Charlton defender could now be set for an extended run of games in the side following such an impressive performance, having also seemed to have risen above Jarell Quansah in the rankings under Slot.
