John Hartson has told Brendan Rodgers how to approach the January transfer window, as Celtic look to further grip their hands on the Scottish Premiership title and dream of Champions League success - by telling the club to sign Kieran Tierney and sell Luis Palma

The Hoops currently sit four points clear of Aberdeen with a game in hand, and with a trip to Pittodrie on Wednesday evening, they could edge away in the title race to ensure what could be a fourth-straight league win under both Ange Postecoglou and Rodgers.

That would only be expedited with signings in January, and with Celtic likely to qualify for the play-off round of the Champions League proper, Hartson has urged an emotional return for homegrown star Tierney - whilst also stating that the club should accept a move for out-of-sorts star Palma if a bid arrives.

Speaking on Go Radio, the Welsh fan favourite said of Tierney: “Love him, absolutely love him. And I think if they can bring him back that would be great. There’ll be some conditions around that; contractual conditions, finances, I also think fitness - these type of things.

“But a fit Kieran Tierney gets into most teams in the English Premier League for me. He’s a fantastic player when he’s at it and when he’s on it, and when he’s really really fit. The years before he left Celtic he was unbelievable playing in the Champions League, getting up and down that left hand side, left-footed crosses, defensively and going forward.

“[He is a] brilliant, brilliant player, but it would be under a few conditions, naturally, before Celtic make that move, if they are deciding to go down that route.”

And Hartson didn't stop there, telling Rodgers to get rid of Luis Palma if he's insignificant to his plans - by stating that the 'writing is on the wall' for the Honduran winger. He added: “He’s not really featured much. You’ve got [Daizen] Maeda on that left, and you have [Nicolas] Kuhn and [James] Forrest on that other side. Forrest can shift over to the other side as well.

"If Palma goes, they’ll certainly want to get another one in over on that left hand side, but it is looking like the writing is on the wall for Palma.

"I just think for Celtic now, it’s in the papers every other day that he’s not happy, his dad’s been courting a move, and this and that. I feel in January if they get the right type of offer for him, I think they better act on that and let him go."
