Chelsea hero Frank Leboeuf has named Jordan Pickford as one of three goalkeepers his former club should target this summer rather than move for Man City ace Ederson. Despite helping Pep Guardiola's team win trophy after trophy following his switch to the club back in 2017, the Brazilian international has been linked with a surprise Etihad Stadium exit this summer.

Chelsea, meanwhile, could themselves be on the lookout for a new shot-stopper before the summer transfer deadline amid question marks over what exactly Enzo Maresca will do when it comes to the club's goalkeeping department. Djordje Petrovic was the man in possession of the gloves for the majority of last season after summer addition Robert Sanchez was forced to watch on from the sidelines due to injury.

As Chelsea could quite easily decide to bring in a new goalkeeper to replace the aforementioned duo, Leboeuf has named Pickford of Everton, AC Milan's Mike Maignan and Brighton & Hove Albion's Bart Verbruggen as three goalkeepers who would be "excellent" for the Blues. However, he believes a deal for Maignan could be quite tricky to finalise due to the team's lack of Champions League football.

"Ederson is clearly being left out for a reason and I don’t think Chelsea should sign him. If you look at the past players who Guardiola has sold, there’s always been a reason," said Leboeuf when speaking to BoyleSports, who offer the latest Euro 2024 Betting, about Chelsea's goalkeeper situation.

"Apart from Cole Palmer, who didn't want to wait to play, [Raheem] Sterling, Gabriel Jesus for Arsenal - all the players he has sold have gone on to struggle at their new clubs. If Pep doesn't want you, it's for a reason, and that's why I'd be cautious about signing Ederson if I was Chelsea.

"Mike Maignan, however, would be an excellent signing for Chelsea and I don't think Milan could afford to keep him at Chelsea. I'd drive him to Stamford Bridge myself if I could. I just don't think he would go to Chelsea as they don't have Champions League football. He's for sure one of the best goalkeeper in the world, however.

"I do think the Dutch goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen has been excellent for the Netherlands and he could be a great option for Chelsea, but so would Jordan Pickford who has proven time and time again how important he is to England."

On the current goalkeepers at Chelsea, the World Cup winner added: "Chelsea signing Robert Sanchez was bizarre and a mystery. Kepa [Arrizabalaga] was a huge mistake. It's hard to follow in Petr Cech's lead and I'm afraid I just do not believe Sanchez, Kepa or Petrovic are good enough to play at the level that Chelsea need."
