Jose Cordoba given Rangers VIP treatment as Philippe Clement closes in on first summer transfer

Rangers are in advanced talks with signing target Jose Cordoba, according to a report.

Gers boss Philippe Clement is looking to reshape his squad for next season in what will be his second transfer window at the club. The Panama centre-back has become a top target and discussions have already taken place with the 22-year-old, currently at Levski Sofia in Bulgaria.

Indeed, he was a guest of the club and given VIP treatment at last weekend's win over Kilmarnock, according to the Rangers Review. Talks are said to be at and advanced stage and the Ibrox side will aim to reach an agreement with Cordoba, who looks certain to leave Sofia. Reports in South America suggest Rangers will have to fork out around £3million for the player.

He has been there two years after making a loan from fellow Bulgarians Etar permanent. Prior to that he was with Celta Vigo where he played only for the Spanish side's B team.

Of the current Light Blues centre-backs, Leon Balogun is out contract in the summer while Ben Davies doesn't look to have much of a future at the club after being frozen out until his sub appearance at the weekend with Connor Goldson injured.

Goldson himself has been the subject of reported interest from Steven Gerrard in Saudi Arabia and so John Souttar would appear to be the only settled senior player in that position.
