Josh Doig Rangers transfer lifeline as looming Sassuolo relegation threatens Hibs hero's future after Jefte hitch

Josh Doig could be in line for a cut-price transfer deal this summer just a few short months after moving to Sassuolo in Serie A.

The Italian club are now facing the serious threat of relegation as they sit second bottom of the division, five points behind the safety zone with just four games to go. Reports in Italy this morning have suggested that Lazio are interested in taking the Hibs hero to the Olimpico Stadium in the summer for less than the £4.5million Sassuolo paid Hellas Verona for the player in January.

But Rangers could also be keeping a keen eye on the defender having previously held an interest before he made the winter switch.

Philippe Clement knows Borna Barisic will leave the club in the summer with Trabzonspor sealing a deal for the Croatian this week. Brazilian Jefte had supposedly shook on a gentlemen's agreement with Gers after APOEL refused to end his Fluminese loan early to help sanction a move to Ibrox last summer.

There have, however, been fears accumulate after APOEL chief Prodromos Petrides explained that the player had a change of heart and wanted to stay in Cyprus and not move to Glasgow.

That would leave Clement still searching for a left-back and Doig's relegation disappointment could potentially come at the right time for the Light Blues to capitalise.
