Joshua Zirkzee's long-term future at Manchester United could be cut short as he is reportedly not part of Ruben Amorim's plans.

MEN Sport understands that the club are having serious doubts over the Dutch striker. Zirkzee was bought in the summer from Bologna for a fee of £36.5million but has struggled for form, scoring just once in 17 appearances so far this season.

Meanwhile, journalist Sacha Tavolieri has claimed he is not in Amorim's immediate plans at Old Trafford, leading to uncertainty over his future. Currently Rasmus Hojlund is being preferred as a centre-forward and while there has been suggestions Zirkzee could be played deeper in Amorim's 3-4-3 system, Bruno Fernandes has been the leading No.10.

It remains to be seen whether Zirkzee will be handed minutes in Sunday's clash with Ipswich Town when Amorim takes charge of his first game in the Premier League.

Elsewhere, Tottenham are 'hoping' to beat United to the signing of former academy graduate Angel Gomes. The 24-year-old is being rumoured to return to Old Trafford after leaving for Lille in 2020.

And now that Amorim has taken the reins at the club, reports have claimed Gomes is a player who has been on the Portuguese coach's radar for a long time. The Sun have stated Gomes is a 'major target' for Amorim, who reportedly feels he can return to the club next summer to become an integral part of his system.

This is said to align with the views of both sporting director Dan Ashworth and technical director Jason Wilcox.

Now a report by Give Me Sport states Tottenham 'are considering' making an offer for the Lille midfielder in January when the winter transfer window re-opens. It's said Spurs are keen to get ahead of competition and offer Lille a 'last-minute opportunity' to get some funds for Gomes before his contract runs out at the end of the season.

In addition to United, Newcastle have also been linked with the 24-year-old.
