The United States Men's National Team (USMNT) is setting their sights on Jurgen Klopp as their top choice to replace Gregg Berhalter. This comes after the ex-Liverpool manager hinted at interest in the role.

Berhalter was let go from his position with USMNT following a disappointing stint, which saw the team fail to progress past the group stages in the Copa America without securing a single win. His position had been under scrutiny leading up to the tournament, and a series of poor performances sealed his fate this week.

According to The Independent, initial contact has been made with Klopp's representatives to assess his interest, with USMNT keen to secure his services following his surprising departure from Anfield.

Upon leaving Liverpool, despite having two years remaining on his contract, Klopp expressed a need for a break from coaching and suggested he might not return to club football.

Since then, the German has been seen enjoying his time off across Europe with his wife, Ulla, but could be persuaded to cut his break short. An international role would also be less demanding than a club position.

Klopp was on a sabbatical when he left Borussia Dortmund, only to be lured back into the game months later by Liverpool. The Athletic has previously reported that Klopp is considering the role amid recent rumors suggesting he is a strong candidate.

After Berhalter's departure, USA supporters flooded social media, imploring their football chiefs to snap up Klopp. The Liverpool boss himself seemed to tease the idea with an Instagram post that had fans buzzing.

Klopp shared snaps of his American adventures on July 4th, captioning them: "It's the perfect day to think about my trips with Liverpool FC to the States. We've had a great time and the US fans are electric! Happy 4th of July".

Back in May, Klopp hinted at his career trajectory, sparking speculation about a shift towards international management. Speaking to the Willipedia podcast, he said: "It's out of the question that I'll stop working altogether. But I don't see myself continuing at the same pace as before at the moment."
