Jurgen Klopp's wife has advised him on his next steps after departing Liverpool - and it's not the first time she's taken charge.

As Klopp ends his tenure at Anfield after nearly nine years, the fourth-longest managerial stint in Premier League history, he gladly lets his significant other Ulla Sandrock take the reins of their personal decisions.

For the immediate future, Klopp will be focusing less on football and more on learning personal skills, as guided by Ulla - who wants him to improve in the kitchen and on the dance floor.

"There's a few things Ulla told me - I have to learn cooking and a dance class," he told Sky News last month. "I said you don't want me to have a break because if I do that I will start working after four weeks again!

"I should learn cooking probably so I can at least make some breakfast or whatever. This will be the first time in my life where I don't have a real idea of what I will do and that's exactly what I want.

"During COVID I did scrambled eggs but after that I forgot it again. I was raised in the Black Forest with two sisters, the only reason I knew where the kitchen was because the smell came from there. I'm pretty useless in private life."

Ulla has been by Klopp's side since they met when he managed Mainz and she served at his favourite local bar. They married in 2005 and she joined him on his journey from Borussia Dortmund to Liverpool, reports the Mirror.

They could have made the move to England two years earlier, but it was Ulla's advice that saw him reject Manchester United, according to Liverpool icon Phil Thompson. Speaking to TV2 in 2019, Thompson shared a revealing conversation with Klopp: "I interviewed Klopp for Sky, and I asked if he and Liverpool were created for each other.

"He looked at me and asked 'Why?' Then Klopp told me he could have taken over Manchester United, but his wife said it wasn't right. When Liverpool arrived, his wife said it was right. There is something strange there. It is as if he's created for Liverpool."

Despite stepping away from the Liverpool helm, Klopp won't be disappearing from the football world entirely. Ahead of his last match, he confirmed his plans to reporters. "I have got an invitation now for the Champions League final," he said.

"They said 'I don't think he will come' but of course I will come, it's the Champions League final and I have nothing to do really! That's one thing, besides that we didn't plan anything. At the Euros we will watch games and have tickets for a few games.

"Being in Germany for a long time, meeting friends, nothing spectacular. Just easy-going, not planning a pre-season, I will definitely not do that, and not being involved in any transfer talks, which is such a difference. I'm really looking forward to it. But no real plans."
