Jurrien Timber has offered a clear response to Arsenal's poor recent run of form ahead of the Premier League clash against Chelsea. The Gunners have won just two of their last six games with their latest defeat coming against Inter Milan in the Champions League on Wednesday evening.

A late first-half penalty from Hakan Calhanoglu saw the Italian side come out as victors with it the second consecutive game Arsenal have failed to find the back of the net. Mikel Arteta had fresh injury worries surrounding Mikel Merino and Kai Havertz, alongside the absence of Declan Rice because of a minor issue.

"No, he was not concussed," Arteta said of Merino following his collision with Yann Sommer when asked about his half-time sub. "Yesterday and today he was already not feeling great and when I looked at that I decided to take him off because I need him 100%."

"Kai he has a big cut," the Arsenal boss added when explaining why the Germany international came off deep into added time. "He had to come off because he needed some stitches. Hopefully he will be OK for the weekend." His departure resulted in the return of Martin Odegaard from a six-week absence due to an ankle injury.

The worst-case scenario for Arteta would be Rice, Merino and Havertz all being unable to feature in the starting XI with Odegaard also not risked having just returned. Arsenal still have a number of players that can make an impact with Bukayo Saka firmly among those.

Though defensive injuries have plagued Arteta, his first-choice back four of Timber, William Saliba, Gabriel Magalahes and Ben White, are all fit and available. Despite that, Arsenal were unable to keep a clean sheet with Timber offering his thoughts on the game.

“It’s very tough,” he told the official Arsenal website after the match. “Very frustrating for us. I think we played a good game, we dominated a lot but we didn’t score. In the Champions League, you have to score if you want to win. It’s a tough away game and small moments can decide a game.”

“At the end, we felt confident, we had a couple of tough matches. On Sunday will be tough again but I believe in our squad, we have a lot of quality, just need a little bit of luck in scoring more goals. Like I said, I have a lot of trust in our team and we’ll be fine for sure.”

The Netherlands international also sent a message to Arsenal supporters on social media. Via Instagram stories, he captioned a photo applauding the travelling fans by saying, "tiny margins.... thanks for your support [hands together emoji.]"

Up next for Arsenal is a London derby away at Chelsea with the task for Arteta and his players to be on the right side of those fine margins that they have not been afforded in recent weeks. Last weekend, it was a singular goal that decided their game against Newcastle.

The previous weekend, one defensive error allowed Liverpool to snatch a point on the trip to Emirates Stadium. Prior to that, a major decision all but decided their fixture against Bournemouth with the Gunners forced to play over an hour with ten men.
