Kasper Schmeichel unfazed by Celtic contract situation as Neil Lennon tipped for managerial comeback
Kasper Schmeichel insists he is completely relaxed about his contract situation at Celtic amid the veteran stopper's flying start to life at Parkhead.
Denmark star Schmeichel has kept 11 clean sheets in his first 19 appearances for the club in all competitions, including a superb display in the 0-0 draw away draw with Atalanta in the Champions League and a 3-0 demolition of Rangers at Parkhead in the first Old Firm derby of the season. The 38-year-old penned a deal in the summer that will take him through to the end of the current season, with the option of an additional 12 months also included.
But the English Premier League winner says he is just focusing on the here and now and that no talks have taken place about his future beyond the end of the season. Speaking to Danish outlet Tipsbladet, he said: "One thing at a time. It’s an option for another year, but we’ll decide at some point next year."
Elsewhere, Neil Lennon has been tipped by his former player at Celtic Joe Ledley to become the next manager of Cardiff City. Hoops legend Lennon has been out of work since his short stint with Rapid Bucharest in Romania came to an end back in September, where he was sacked after failing to win in any of his six games in charge.
But former Wales star Ledley - who was brought to Glasgow by Lennon from Cardiff on a free transfer in the summer of 2010 - believes his old boss is the perfect fit for the vacancy. First team coach Omer Riza is currently at the reins on a caretaker basis following the dismissal of Turkish manager Erol Bulut back in September.
Asked by gambling.com who he would like to see in the hot seat, Ledley replied: "Neil Lennon. I think he would be brilliant there. With his man management skills, and the way he wants his players to fight for the club and fight for the jersey. I haven't seen that there for a long, long time at Cardiff. I know Lenny and the way he can play will be exactly the same as other managers.
"I'd just like to see that fight from the players and that togetherness. I haven't seen it since probably when [Neil] Warnock was at Cardiff. So I'm going to say Neil Lennon, whether he wants it, I don't know.
"I think at the moment it's right for the club to give Omer Riza a bit more time, maybe a few more games. It's the international break, so the club can have a little bit more time to think about it."
