A ladies' lawn tennis team has made history at an annual awards ceremony.

The accomplishment was made by the Ryde Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club's first ladies' team at the Portsmouth and District presentation awards ceremony.

The team, consisting of five core players, celebrated dominating both the summer and winter leagues, winning 15 out of 16 matches, and consequently clinching the winter 2023-24 and summer 2024 divisions.

The team played against various south coast teams, both home and away, on grass, astro, and hard courts.

After two successful seasons in the Portsmouth and District tennis league, joint captains Emma-Jane Dyer and Emma Wheeler had more to celebrate.

The duo received the prestigious Captains of the Year award at the awards evening.

With over 150 individual captains across the Portsmouth and District leagues, this recognition is significant as it marks the first time Ryde Lawn has ever won it.

Both captains, who have led the team for seven years, expressed their delight at the win.

The new season has already started, with the ladies team optimistic about continuing their winning streak into the upcoming year.
