Lady Jumpers host Somerset Turf Classic

Apr. 8—The Lady Jumpers of Somerset were back in action on Saturday as they played host to the Somerset Turf Classic, where they welcomed in some tough competition from the 5th and 11th Regions. They were able to split those games to head into district play with a bit of momentum on their side.

In game one, they squared off against the Lady Hawks of LaRue County. The Jumpers were simply outmatched by the Hawks and ended up falling 15-2 in four innings of action. Sarah White had the sole two RBI's for the Jumpers in their loss with a home run, with Grace Prichard and Emry Pyles also contributing a hit each. Addy White pitched all four innings and despite giving up seven earned runs on 10 hits, also struck out three batters. LaRue County was led by eighth grader Emmaline Engle with four RBI's and two home runs.

The Jumpers were ready to redeem themselves in game two against the Lady Commodores of Tates Creek. After trailing 4-3 after the first two innings, a four-run fourth inning gave Somerset a 7-4 victory in a five inning affair. The Jumpers were led by Addy White with three RBI's and a home run, with Sarah White and Madisyn Robertson each getting one RBI apiece. Jazlynn Shadoan and Pyles also each got a hit. Addy White, Pyles and Robertson each hit a double, with Aleah Wesley earning a stolen base. Addy White went all five innings on the mound again, allowing four runs on five hits with one walk and six strikeouts. Tates Creek had two different batters with one RBI each.

Somerset sits at 5-6 for the season and will begin a series against district foe Rockcastle County on Monday.
