Lady Maroons defeat Casey & West Jess, fall to Franklin

Apr. 22—The Pulaski County softball team had a busy Friday and Saturday, facing off against a district opponent before heading to West Jessamine for two tough games on the weekend, with the Lady Maroons able to go 2-1 during those games.

Pulaski first defeated Casey County on the road on Friday 10-3 for a 4-0 start in district action. Brooklyn Thomas and Avery Davis each had three RBI's to lead the Maroons, with Bella Ellis adding two and Rilee Ross getting one. Ellis and Davis each had a home run in the contest. Thomas also added a stolen base and earned the win on the mound, pitching all seven innings and allowing three runs on four hits with two walks and six strikeouts.

Pulaski traveled to West Jessamine on Saturday and took on the hosting Colts first, with the Colts only having two losses on the season. The Maroons made that three as they defeated West Jessamine 6-5 in a hard-fought battle. Ross, Thomas, Claire Hamilton, Novaleigh Baker and Ryann Sowder each had one RBI apiece in the victory. Ross, Thomas and Maggie Gregory each had a stolen base. Ellis earned the win on the mound, going all seven innings and allowing five runs on nine hits with one walk and one strikeout. West Jessamine was led by freshman Abigail Myszak with two RBI's.

The Maroons unfortunately couldn't keep their seven-game winning streak going against Franklin County though, as they would fall 4-2 against the Lady Flyers. Thomas and Ellis each had one RBI in the loss, with Davis adding a stolen base. Thomas had the loss on the mound, going six innings and allowing four runs on five hits with two walks and 12 strikeouts.

Pulaski now is 14-5 for the season and will begin their final district series of the season on Monday as they play host to Somerset.
