Lady Rebels hold off North Decatur 3-2

Apr. 2—GREENSBURG — The Lady Chargers opened the softball season at home against Southwestern (Hanover) Saturday. North Decatur took the lead 1-0 in the bottom of the third inning, but the Lady Rebels scored two in the top of the fourth and one in the top of the sixth en route to the 3-2 victory.

The Lady Chargers got on the board first when Elizabeth Meister tripled to right field and scored on the throw to make it 1-0.

In the top of the fourth, Southwestern's Chloey Leach singled to centerfield. Jenna Owens followed with a single to center. A ground out moved the Lady Rebel base runners up. With two outs, Paisley Hendrix doubled to centerfield to score both runners and put the Lady Rebels in front 2-1.

In the top of the sixth, Owens tripled. With one out, a fielder's choice off the Riley Scroggins ground ball allowed Owens to score to make it 3-1.

North closed the gap to 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth. Meister singled and went to second on a single by Kennedy Stier. Sarah Swain singled to drive in Meister.

Southwestern went down in order in the top of the seventh. North's Carmen Thackery singled to left and went to second on the throw. Two strikeouts and a fly out ended the threat and the game.

North had seven hits on the day. Thackery and Meister both had two hits. Stier, Madison Rohls and Swain all had one hit. Swain and Meister each had an RBI.

Swain suffered the loss in the circle, allowing three earned runs on nine hits and no walks while striking out eight.

Southwestern's Ashley Fulton picked up the win, going all seven innings and allowing two earned runs on seven hits and no walks while striking out 11.
