Law and District AAC tackle National Cross Country Championships

Law and District Amateur Athletics Club members tackled the Lindsays National Cross Country Relays recently with four teams performing well.

This event is always one of the most popular events in the year across the championship calendar in Scotland and the 2024 edition lived up to that reputation, with over 490 teams competing from throughout Scotland.

Law had four teams taking part, with all athletes thoroughly enjoying the day, especially with the fine weather.

First up were the young women’s teams with three relay runners - U13 Grace Frood, U13 Helena Wotherspoon and U17 Lucy Corns - finishing 43rd of 52 teams, each running a 2.5km leg.

The young men’s team of U13 Alexander Wotherspoon, U15 Cameron Chambers and U15 James Black completed their race in 17th place of 44 teams.

Law’s only senior woman competing on the day, Emily McNicol, represented Glasgow University, with the team finishing in 8th place of 54, with team mates Laura Jedrusiak, Rachel Muir and Mia Padmanabhan, all running a 4km leg.

The final event of the day saw two teams in the senior men category, all covering 4km each, with the A team of Ryan Kellock, Allan Neill, Mark Hand and Jordon Morrison finishing in 38th place of 111. The B team were 97th with Mark Milligan, Rich Beattie, Jim Gillon and Bobby Hill all competing.

Meanwhile, congratulations were in order for senior athlete and board member Bobby Wotherspoon who ran his 3rd marathon of the year in Snowdonia, completing the route in 3.31 to finish 12th in his category.

Elsewhere, Liam Nolan continued his good form, achieving a new Scottish F20 hammer record with a fantastic throw of 36.05m, beating his previous record of 35.51m, at the Throws Grand Prix in Linwood. Liam was supported by his coaches Don McLeod, Colin Gray and Graeme Ferguson.
