Two goals from striker Jonathan Lawson saw Watford Under-21s make it three consecutive wins with a trio of clean sheets.

The 2-0 victory over Ipswich Town in the Premier League Cup at London Colney this afternoon has completed a good run for the Hornets youngsters.

Following a 7-0 hammering of Colchester last week and then a 1-0 win over QPR on Monday, Charlie Daniels’ side have properly shaken off a poor run of results.

The Hornets lost 2-1 away at Ipswich only a month ago, conceding a late winner having been 1-0 up with 20 minutes to go.

For Lawson, his double today makes it four in three games as he also notched a brace in the romp against Colchester.

His 13th-minute strike gave Watford a 1-0 lead at the break.

Two minutes into the second half he slotted home from just outside the box to make it 2-0.

Lawson joined the Hornets in the summer of 2023, having previously played for Isthmian League side Cray Valley.

The striker agreed a new professional contract in May 2024.

The victory also saw a clean sheet for keeper Alfie Marriott, who has spent most of the season so far being the third keeper for the first team.

Forward Amin Nabizada, who has scored seven in the last three Under-18 games, was given a start.

The Under-21s are next in action when they travel to face Bournemouth in the Premier Development League South on Tuesday November 19.

Then on Monday November 25, fans who like to watch the club’s younger players can take in the next Premier League Cup tie when the Hornets’ youngsters host Everton at Kings Langley’s Orbital Fasteners Stadium (7pm kick-off).

Watford: Marriott; Abbott (Mullins 55), Buers, Ramirez-Espain, Clarridge, Kamga, Massiah-Edwards (Almeida 83), Coyne, Lawson, Keyes (Garcia-Romero 75), Nabizada (Fraser-Grante 75). Unused sub: Ortelli.
