An unexpected reunion with Frank Lampard could be on the horizon for Leeds United on the other side of the international break and into the second half of this season. The 46-year-old has been out of work since the end of the 22/23 season, when he concluded an unsuccessful spell as caretaker manager at Chelsea.

Since ending one of the best English playing careers of the 21st century, Lampard has had two spells on the touchline with Chelsea, as well as time at Derby County and Everton. The bookmakers would suggest he is set to add a fourth club to that list in the near future.

At the time of writing, Lampard is the odds-on favourite to be named Coventry City’s next boss after the widely-criticised sacking of Mark Robins with the two bookmakers offering a market. Robins helped the Sky Blues to climb from League Two to the Championship, winning the EFL Trophy and reaching an FA Cup semi-final in the process.

Lampard has quickly emerged as the likeliest replacement according to the betting markets and Coventry owner Doug King has admitted the Chelsea legend has applied for the role. According to CoventryLive, King also insisted no conversations had yet been had with Lampard, having nodded when asked if his CV had been received.

Coventry host Leeds on February 8. Lampard has faced the Whites on seven occasions as a manager. There were four meetings during his one season as Derby boss, which saw three defeats to Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds, but a crucial win the 2019 play-off semi-final second leg.

Then, in the Premier League, there was one win with Chelsea and then four points from two games as Everton boss.
