Mads Hermansen offered an apology over Leicester City’s loss to Nottingham Forest as players reacted to the derby-day defeat.

The goalkeeper said “the performance wasn’t good enough” as City were undone at the King Power Stadium on Friday night, Chris Wood scoring twice in the second half as Steve Cooper’s side collapsed. Going behind shortly after half-time, City had no response.

There were boos at the final whistle with City having now won just one of their five Premier League home matches. Still, they will be at least five points clear of the drop zone by the end of the weekend, with Southampton, Wolves and Ipswich still winless.

Hermansen wrote on social media: “Sorry that we couldn’t give a win to you all last night. Our performance wasn’t good enough. We will bounce back!”

Abdul Fatawu, who made his first Premier League start since August in the fixture, said: “Really hard one to take. So disappointed for not getting the result we wanted last night. Thank you all for your amazing support.”

Right-back Ricardo Pereira, handed his first Premier League appearance of the season after Victor Kristiansen’s injury, said: “Time to regroup to bounce back! Thanks for the support.” Meanwhile, defender Caleb Okoli added: “Not the result we wanted. Thanks for the support.”

City have a big opportunity to bounce back when they head to Portman Road next Saturday for a clash with fellow promoted side Ipswich. The Tractor Boys gave up a two-goal lead this weekend as they lost 4-3 to Brentford.

Before that, though, City head to Old Trafford. On Wednesday, they face Manchester United in the Carabao Cup, with a place in the quarter-finals up for grabs.
