Lewis Ferguson ready to commit to Bologna with both parties 'keen' as timeline emerges
Lewis Ferguson is set to sign a new one-year deal at Bologna, according to a report.
The Scotland star has returned from a serious knee injury suffered back in April that ruled him out of Euro 2024, coming off the bench to make his Champions League debut in Tuesday's 1-0 home defeat to Monaco after appearing for the last 10 minutes against Leece in Serie A three days earlier. The ex-Aberdeen and Hamilton's midfielder's superb displays at the Renato Dall'Ara Stadium last season helped Bologna secure Champions League football for the first time since 1964, and the 25-year-old is also said to have caught the eye of Serie A big boys Juventus, AC Milan and Napoli.
Ferguson's dad and former Rangers hero Derek Ferguson hinted back in September that the Bologna captain was close to agreeing a new contract, and now Italian outlet Il Resto del Carlino claim that the deal is edging ever closer. Ferguson is under contract with I Rossoblu until the summer of 2028 but the report claims that the club want to tie him down for an additional year.

They add that although the Scotland international is yet to put pen to paper, both parties are keen to reach an agreement, which could be ironed out during the forthcoming international break. Ferguson has registered 13 goals and five assists in 68 matches since his £3million arrival from Aberdeen in the summer of 2022, and is the highest scoring Scot in the history of Serie A. The Dons have a 15 per cent sell on clause on the player's next transfer.
