Lions return core group for golf season

Mar. 31—RUSHVILLE — The Rushville golf team is looking to take a step forward after a 4-11 record in 2023 in 9-hole matches. The Lions return a solid group to build toward an improved 2024 season.

"We have a good core group of returning players from last year's squad. Aiden Philpot, Brody Terrell, Griffin Norris and Mason Mosberg are all returning from the starting five at last year's sectional," Coach Paul Nicholls said.

"We are also expecting good contributions from other returning players such as Kyle Jacobs, Wyatt Gulley and Carson Hylton," Coach Nicholls added.

Incoming freshman Caleb Schelle and Ian Griffith are also expected to contend for a varsity spot throughout the season.

Coach Nicholls will use his years of experience in golf instruction and professional competition to guide the Lions. Assistant Coach Brandon Jenkins is a familiar face to the program. Jenkins qualified for the regional twice in his high school playing days.

"Preseason practices have shown some good promise. With the improvements shown in the games of the returning players, as well as freshman, the Lions look to jump way ahead of last year's performances," Coach Nicholls said.

The Lions have set goals of a winning record in 9-hole matches, climbing the leaderboard in 18-hole events and being in contention for a regional spot this season.
