Lisandro Martinez has praised the "intensity and energy" Ruben Amorim is trying to implement at Manchester United.

Amorim hasn't inspired the immediate turnaround in results that fans hoped for, but United's new head coach has brought in a new style of play and needs time to improve the team.

United lost 3-2 against Nottingham Forest at the weekend and Amorim is learning which players he can depend on ahead of making much-needed changes at the end of the season.

Amorim has overseen a draw against Ipswich Town, wins against Bodo/Glimt and Everton before defeats against Arsenal and Nottingham Forest. United are currently 13th in the Premier League table and the team is a work in progress but Amorim has brought an identity to the club.

Martinez was interviewed by club media for the United matchday programme on Saturday evening and the defender discussed Amorim and the "intense" football he wants to play.

“It’s the way I like to play, the way of playing football: the passion, the energy,” Martinez said. "You know, if you have that with me, it's like you connect quickly. He has many, many good things.

"I think he demands what the club demands, which is good. I like his passion, his energy, the way he wants to play - good in possession, in defending. I think he's good. Also the staff [Amorim's new coaching team], the energy around, it [has been] so good, yeah."

Martinez added on Amorim's system: "It's with three in the back but, during the game, you have principles. Sometimes you are playing with four at the back, you are sometimes with five. It depends how they attack, how we attack, how we are in defence.

"But yeah, I like it. I like the intensity, I like the energy. I like, for example, how he wants to play in possession and without possession as well. So yeah, I feel great in this system.”

Martinez has continued to be first choice in defence following Erik ten Hag's sacking but has struggled for form this term and made a mistake for Nottingham Forest's third goal.

United were dreadful at the back against Forest and Andre Onana also made a mistake which led to a goal.
