Cowboys hold on to beat Giants in injury-filled game on Thursday Night Football

The Cowboys and Giants are off to rough 1-2 starts this season

The Dallas Cowboys are back in the win column, courtesy of the New York Giants.

In an ugly, injury-filled "Thursday Night Football" game, the Cowboys held on for a 20-15 win against their NFC East rivals. It is starting quarterback Dak Prescott's 13th straight win over New York.

The Dallas defense was the difference-maker. After back-to-back rough outings against the New Orleans Saints and Baltimore Ravens, the unit locked down the Giants run game, allowing 26 yards on the ground on 24 attempts, and forced quarterback Daniel Jones to air it out if he wanted to win.

Giants rookie Malik Nabers was up to the task, with 12 receptions for 115 yards, but few others were. Prescott, meanwhile, went 22-for-27 for 221 yards and two touchdowns, while CeeDee Lamb had 98 receiving yards and a touchdown.

Unfortunately, both teams were bit by the injury bug. Cowboys defensive standouts Micah Parsons, Trevon Diggs and DeMarcus Lawrence all left the game at different points with injuries, while Nabers was ruled out in the fourth quarter with a concussion.

Here's how it all went down on Yahoo Sports:

LIVE COVERAGE IS OVER47 updates
  • FINAL: Cowboys 20, Giants 15

It wasn't pretty, but the Cowboys bounce back against a Giants team that could move the ball, but couldn't break through when it mattered. Now, both teams take a deep breath and hope their stars are OK.

  • Daniel Jones intercepted just short of the end zone

    And that will do it.

  • Malik Nabers ruled out with a concussion

  • Brandon Aubrey misses a kick!

The Cowboys kicker is the best in the NFL and he just missed the first 50-plus yard field goal attempt of his career. The Giants will get the ball back on their own 41 with 28 seconds left.

  • Looking bleak for the Giants

The Giants are out of timeouts, the Cowboys got a fresh set of downs with less than three minutes to play and Nabers just went to the locker room.

  • This has been an injury filled game

Micah Parsons, Malik Nabers, Trevon Diggs, DeMarcus Lawrence. Parsons is now being carted off to the locker room, while Nabers is in the blue tent.

  • Giants stopped on fourth down, and Malik Nabers appears hurt

After three straight fourth down conversions, the Giants go for it one more time on 4th-and-6. Daniel Jones scrambles and finds Malik Nabers on the sideline, but Nabers can't hold onto the ball. And now Nabers looks hurt. Not the best few seconds for New York.

  • Micah Parsons appears to be hurt

  • Cowboys 20, Giants 15

Kayvon Thibodeaux hits Dak Prescott on third down and helps force an incompletion, then Brandon Aubrey makes a 40-yard field goal. The Giants once again need a field goal in a game where they are only scoring field goals.

  • Decent company for Nabers

  • Looks like Trevon Diggs was cramping up

  • Malik Nabers: 11 receptions on 13 targets for 113 yards

The rookie is once again balling out as the clear top option of the Giants offense. But that lack of a touchdown is looming large

  • Cowboys 17, Giants 15

The Giants make another field goal, this time a 42-yarder from Greg Joseph to go 5-for-5 on the game. New York has been moving well on offense, but they just can't break through for a TD. But hey, one more stop and a field goal gives them the lead.

  • Trevon Diggs down with an injury

It's unclear what happened during a tackle, but Cowboys CB Trevon Diggs is leaving the field with trainers after nursing his ankle. Looks like he's headed immediately to the locker room. That could be big with the way the Giants are looking for Nabers, whom Diggs was primarily covering.

  • Giants convert a 4th-and-3

Giants go for it on 4th-and-3 and Jones hits Nabers on a short route in front of Trevon Diggs. He's mostly kept the passes conservative, but this has been Jones' best game of the season.

  • DeMarcus Lawrence still on sideline

DeMarcus Lawrence had his right foot retaped for more arch support, according to Kaylee Hartung. He's still on the sideline holding his helmet and has not returned to the game.

  • 3-and-out for the Giants

On their next possession, Daniel Jones gets tackled for a five-yard loss on a 2nd-and-5 zone read. He hits Wan'Dale Robinson for a six-yard pass on the next play, but short of the first down.

  • Brandon Aubrey hits a 60-yard field goal

Cowboys' first drive of the second half sputters after a holding penalty on Tyler Guyton, pushing them back to the Giants' 42.

But with Brandon Aubrey's boomstick leg, they still get points. He hits a 60-yard field goal easily for a 17–12 Dallas lead.

Probably would've been good from 65.

  • Cowboys 14, Giants 12

Greg Joseph hits his fourth field goal of the game for the Giants.

New York's drive stalls out at the Dallas 3-yard line, when Daniel Jones' five-yard pass is short of a first down.

Giants got a bit conservative once they reached the 10. Jones was moving the ball through the air, completing five passes for 70 yards before that last five-yard completion.

  • DeMarcus Lawrence injured

DeMarcus Lawrence apparently suffered an ankle injury. After being checked on the sideline, he's going to the locker room.

  • Daniel Jones starting 2nd half hot

Daniel Jones has completed his first three passes of the second half for a combined 36 yards.

He's only thrown two incompletions so far tonight.

  • Halftime: Cowboys 14, Giants 9

Total yards: Cowboys 185, Giants 167

    Dallas

    Dak Prescott: 14-for-16, 164 yards, 2 touchdowns

    CeeDee Lamb: 6 catches, 94 yards, 1 TD; 1 rush, 10 yards

    New York

    Daniel Jones: 13-for-15, 142 yards

Malik Nabers: 5 catches, 55 yards

    Wan'Dale Robinson: 6 catches, 41 yards

    Greg Joseph: 3 field goals

  • Al Michaels has had enough of the flags

Dallas has been called for nine penalties, and New York has been flagged three times. Al Michaels has had enough.

  • Offsetting penalties wipe out Dallas 26-yard pass

Dak Prescott hit Jalen Tolbert for a 26-yard gain on 3rd-and-12, but the play is negated by Kayvon Thibodeaux going offsides and Tyler Guyton called for holding.

  • Time for a Brandon Aubrey boom kick?

Dallas takes over at its 30-yard line with 1:06 left. Will we get a long Brandon Aubrey field goal try before halftime?

  • Giants get another field goal

The Giants put together a good drive, going 52 yards in 15 plays. But it stalled out after Daniel Jones was sacked on 3rd-and-9 at the Dallas 20.

Greg Joseph kicks his third field goal of the game to make it Cowboys 14, Giants 9.

  • Giants drive stalls out

On 3rd-and-4 after Daniel Jones drew Micah Parsons into the neutral zone with a hard count, the Giants QB gets sacked by DeMarcus Lawrence.

Giants get called for holding on Jermaine Eluemunor, but that's declined.

  • Daniel Jones runs for a 1st down

Giants needed a first down on 3rd-and-3 to keep a long drive alive. Daniel Jones keeps it after faking a handoff to Devin Singletary and runs five yards for a first down.

  • Micah Parsons with a "stinger": Report

Micah Parsons suffered a "stinger" and was evaluated by several members of medical personnel, according to Prime Video's Kaylee Hartung.

  • Micah Parsons back on the field

Micah Parsons is back in the game for Dallas on 2nd-and-8. Daniel Jones throws incomplete to Malik Nabers on a deep try.

  • Micah Parsons still out of the game

Micah Parsons was diagnosed with a neck injury. The Cowboys say he'll return to the game, per NFL Network's Mike Garafalo.

However, Parsons is still on the sideline with his helmet off.

  • Touchdown, Dallas

Cowboys take over and go 70 yards in five plays, finished off with a 55-yard pass from Dak Prescot to CeeDee Lamb.

Lamb is presumably happy with how Week 4 is going so far. Maybe too happy, as he drew a 15-yard penalty for taunting.

    Cowboys 14, Giants 6

  • Micah Parsons out of the tent

Replay showed Micah Parsons collided with Mazi Smith, taking a shot to the head off Smith's hip. Officials noticed the hit and got Parsons out of the game.

He's out of the tent after being examined and has his helmet, according to Prime Video's Kaylee Hartung.

  • Cowboys 7, Giants 6

Greg Joseph hits a 41-yard field goal to finish off the Giants' second drive.

But the story at this moment is Micah Parsons.

  • Micah Parsons out of the game

Cowboys EDGE Micah Parsons is out of the game after getting hurt on a five-yard pass to Wan'Dale Robinson. It's not clear how exactly he got hurt, whether on a block or colliding with a teammate on a tackle.

Parsons is being checked in the sideline medical tent.

  • Daniel Jones interception negated by penalty

Daniel Jones throws it deep to Darius Slayton on a free play with the Cowboys drawing a penalty.

Trevon Diggs intercepts the pass, but it's wiped out by an offsides call on Carl Lawson. 3rd-and-14 becomes 3rd-and-9.

  • 1st Quarter: Cowboys 7, Giants 0

Dak Prescott is 9-of-10 for 82 yards passing and a touchdown.

Daniel Jones, 4-of-4 passing for 57 yards.

  • Touchdown, Cowboys

Cowboys get a touchdown on a 15-yard catch and run by Rico Dowdle out of the backfield. There was a flag thrown on the play, but that gets picked up with no penalty.

    Cowboys 7, Giants 3

  • CeeDee Lamb matches Week 3's catch total

CeeDee Lamb already has four catches for 30 yards, matching the four receptions he got last week. He also has a 10-yard run, lining up at running back.

Last week, Lamb had four catches for 67 yards and got into a sideline spat with Dak Prescott, unhappy with how he was being utilized.

  • Wrong facemask call

Replay shows that the officials got the facemask penalty on Daniel Bellinger wrong. Even worse, DeMarvion Overshown grabbed Bellinger's facemask and missed it.

  • Giants 3, Cowboys 0

A facemask penalty on Daniel Bellinger gave the Giants a 2nd-and-18 from the Dallas 48-yard line.

Daniel Jones completes two consecutive passes to Wan'Dale Robinson for a combined 14 yards, not enough for the first down.

Greg Joseph puts the Giants on the board first with a 52-yard field goal.

  • Daniel Jones to wide-open Malik Nabers

On 3rd-and-4, Daniel Jones hits a wide-open Malik Nabers for a 38-yard pass. Blown coverage there by the Cowboys' Andrew Booth.

  • Cowboys 3-and-out to start

On 1st down, Rico Dowdle carries for 6 yards for the Cowboys. But he's stopped for a one-yard loss on the next play. And on 3rd-and-5, Dak Prescott throws an incomplete pass.

Giants take over after a 50-yard punt from Bryan Anger.

  • Dak Prescott, 12–2 vs. the Giants

The last time Dak Prescott lost to the Giants was on Dec. 11, 2016.

In 14 starts versus New York, he's 12

  • Will Brandon Aubrey kick a 60-yarder tonight?

Brandon Aubrey hit a 65-yard field goal in Week 3. What will his longest kick be tonight?

    From Frank Schwab:

Even in a league that has more excellent long-range kickers than ever, Aubrey stands out. He hit a 66-yard field goal in preseason at Las Vegas, and it would have been good from 72 yards according to the tracker. In Week 1 he was going to try a 66-yard field goal but there was a delay-of-game penalty. Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy contemplated trying a 71-yarder before being talked out of it.
