Manchester United icon Lee Sharpe has compared Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah to the legendary Arjen Robben as he admitted Reds boss Arne Slot is making life in the Premier League "look easy".

The Merseysiders extended their lead at the top of the division to eight points following a crucial 3-2 comeback victory against Southampton at the weekend. Having fallen behind at St. Mary's, it looked as though Liverpool's opportunity to capitalize on Manchester City's loss against Tottenham was at risk of slipping through their hands.

However, talisman Salah was on hand to grab a timely equalizer in the second half, allowing enough time for him to notch the winner from the penalty spot. After the Egyptian winger took his tally to 10 goals in 12 league outings this term, ex-Premier League stalwart Sharpe has waxed lyrical about the forward's qualities.

The three-time Premier League victor acknowledged that the 32-year-old attacker shows no signs of slowing down after another impressive start to the campaign. Speaking to Racing Tipster, the one-time Old Trafford hero compared Salah to ex-Bayern Munich and Real Madrid ace Robben, telling Racing Tipster: "Salah is just ridiculous. Certain aspects of his game remind me of Arjen Robben.

"Every single season everyone knows what he’s going to do, yet they still can’t stop him! He cuts in on that left foot and just scores so many goals. He’s an extraordinary talent who keeps himself super fit and is an exemplary professional. He’s still quick and reads the game really well, scoring and assisting goals from that right-hand side."

Weighing up Salah's standing in the league's all-time stakes, Sharpe said: "What more can you ask for from a wide striker? He’s phenomenal. He'd have to go down as one of the top three wide players to ever play in the Premier League. He’s one of the all-time best because of the goals he scored and his consistency."

Meanwhile, the eight-time England international also confessed that Liverpool's bright start to the new term has caught him by surprise. He said: "At the start of the season I knew Liverpool would be there or thereabouts, but I didn’t anticipate them being eight points clear at this stage of the season.

"I also didn’t expect Manchester City to be where they are or Arsenal slipping up to lose as many points as they have over the last six weeks or so. I always loved Jürgen Klopp and the way Liverpool played football, and Arne Slot has come in and just given them that added composure amongst all the thrash metal."

PraIsing Reds boss Slot for his impact at Anfield, he added: "They’ve come out and played a very average first half so many times and then stepped it up in the second half to become the dominant team again, and that’s really hard to do when you start slowing down.

"Fair play to them, they’ve been unbelievable so far this season, but we are only a quarter of the way through the season, so anything can happen. A couple of injuries can really alter the trajectory of things. But for now they’re flying and making things look very easy."
