Liverpool has announced the exit of the club’s director of scouting and recruitment Dave Fallows after 12 years at the club.

Fallows joined the Reds in 2012, having previously worked at Manchester City, Newcastle United and Bolton Wanderers, and went on to become a key figure in FSG’s reign at the club.

Fallows had initially chosen to delay his departure in order to assist the club in its transition during a big summer of change, which of course saw Jurgen Klopp leave his post as manager. Michael Edwards and Julian Ward returned to work for the club’s owners, while Richard Hughes was appointed as sporting director alongside new head coach Arne Slot.

Having now navigated through that process, and with the club looking to be on steady footing, Liverpool has now confirmed Fallows’ departure.

“I have been very privileged to work for this incredible football club,” Fallows said in a statement. “The fantastic people here starting with the supporters make it so special – to have had the opportunity to work with so many talented players and colleagues past and present who are now friends is something I am very grateful for.

“The leadership here, from ownership, through to Michael [Edwards], Richard [Hughes], Arne [Slot], Billy [Hogan] and Alex [Inglethorpe], is world-class. I have no doubt they will continue to thrive. They are supported by great people across many departments who I will miss working with but will continue to stay close to.

“There are far too many to mention but I am especially grateful to Barry Hunter and all those within the recruitment department who have been a joy to work alongside. Leaving in the knowledge that I will be leaving this place in such great shape is something that means a lot to me. I look forward to supporting the team from a different perspective now but with the same passion for their success.”

Fallows’ departure will likely see a shake-up in Liverpool’s recruitment department. Currently, David Woodfine works as assistant sporting director to Hughes, with director of research Will Spearman and chief scout Barry Hunter also part of the structure.

“Dave has been a trusted colleague for over 10 years and a close friend for two decades,” Edwards, who returned as FSG CEO of football earlier this year, said. "I respect his decision and wish him nothing but success with whatever he does next. He and his family will always be welcome at our club after the contribution he has made. We will miss him.”

Hughes added: “David’s reputation is second to none in his field and his achievements at the club mean he leaves with utmost gratitude and affection. It speaks volumes about Dave that he remained with us to help with the transition and settling-in of a new football leadership team, including myself. I will always be grateful for his advice and assistance during this period.”
