Liverpool 'consider January bid' for striker as Man City transfer battle emerges
Liverpool went into the international break in style with a well-earned win over Aston Villa in the Premier League. The Reds secured a 2-0 victory against Villa at Anfield on Saturday night to secure the precious three points in the title race.
Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah scored the goals to give Liverpool the win over Villa to see the Reds move five points clear at the top of the Premier League table. The Reds are five points ahead of Manchester City and 10 ahead of Arsenal, who will play their final match before the international break against Chelsea on Sunday afternoon.
Arne Slot's team will now rest up for two weeks before returning to top-flight action to face Southampton on November 24. That fortnight will also see Liverpool move ever closer to the opening of the January transfer window, and rumours are already starting to emerge about the business that may be conducted at Anfield in the New Year.

The ECHO takes a look at some of the latest Liverpool transfer news and gossip that have generated headlines over the last 24 hours.
Liverpool are reportedly considering a move to sign Lille striker Jonathan David in January. According to Italian news outlet Corriere dello Sport, the Reds will battle several clubs for the signing of the Canada international in the New Year.
The report claims that Manchester United, Arsenal and Juventus are all interested in signing David, and will compete with Liverpool for his signature. It has been reported that the Reds may look to sign David as a potential replacement for Darwin Nunez.
David has been in fine form for Lille this season, scoring 13 goals across 18 appearances in all competitions. The striker's contract is set to expire at the end of the season, and the report claims that an offer worth €20 million (£16.6 million) could be enough to tempt the Ligue 1 club to part ways in January before David is able to leave for free next summer.
Elsewhere, Liverpool have reportedly been handed a blow in their pursuit of signing Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi. The Reds tried to bring the Spain international to Anfield in the summer, but he chose to remain with his boyhood club.
According to Football Insider, Manchester City are prepared to try and sign Zubimendi when the transfer window opens in January. The report claims that City have identified Zubimendi as a target as they look to strengthen their midfield options in the New Year.
It has been claimed that Pep Guardiola is a fan of Zubimendi and is looking to sign the Sociedad star as a potential replacement for the injured Rodri. It remains to be seen if Liverpool will return to the table to try and sign Zubimendi after failing in their efforts to bring the midfielder to Anfield in the summer.
