'Liverpool doesn't need to think of Mohamed Salah replacements - because he's definitely staying!'

Former Liverpool left-back Stephen Warnock has insisted that Mohamed Salah will not leave the Reds in the summer — with his contract set to expire at the end of the current campaign.

Asked by BetBrain who he thought could replace Salah if the Egyptian leaves the club, Warnock replied: "I don’t have to answer who I think will replace Salah — because he will be at Liverpool! I think the contract situation will get resolved.

"You can see on his face that he’s happy when he’s playing for the club and I think he wants to get the contract signed. Even when he came out to the media, it was a ‘I don’t want to go — I want to be here!’.

"If he leaves, I don’t know where he would go to be honest. I know there were a few links with Paris Saint-Germain but I don’t know whether they’d go down that route with his age. I just don’t see him leaving Liverpool and I think he’ll stay there!"

Jamie Carragher is in agreement. Speaking on the Stick To Football podcast brought to you by Sky Bet, the former Reds center-back insisted that Salah doesn't have that many options to choose from if he does leave Liverpool.

"I love Mo Salah, he’s one of the best players in the world, but the reason I say [he might not have loads of other options] is because of his age," Carragher said. "When you’re on that type of money and you’re talking about getting a raise — a raise isn’t 10 or 20 grand a week.

"How many attackers do Real Madrid have? Barcelona are in dire straits financially and PSG are nowhere near the team Liverpool are. There are only four or five teams that can realistically win the Champions League and Liverpool are one of them.

"He will stay as I’m not sure there are too many options. He’s not ready to go to Saudi [Arabia] — he can do that in three years’ time. Salah is that driven as a footballer to win the record of most goals — or whatever that may be for Liverpool."

Liverpool.com says: Salah should be staying at Liverpool and given that the club and player both seem to want that, it would be strange if it wasn't possible to find a compromise. The Reds should be doing everything they can to keep him but as Warnock and Carragher say, Salah should be doing everything he can to stay too.
