Liverpool has finally confirmed Arne Slot will be the man to lead the post-Jürgen Klopp era at Anfield. Slot has made no secret of his plan to leave Feyenoord, having taken charge of his last match on Sunday.

He, like Klopp, enjoyed an emotional farewell on the final match of the season before Liverpool announced his arrival as head coach on Monday. Slot has signed a three-year deal with Liverpool.

The two clubs had agreed a compensation package for the Dutchman several weeks ago but it appears Liverpool and Feyenoord are claiming different money was spent.

According to The Athletic, Liverpool 'sources' suggest the club paid around $12m (£9.4m/€11m) for Slot, after tough negotiations with Feyenoord chief Dennis te Kloese. However, the Dutch giants claim that figure may be as high as $14m (£11m/€13m)

It is unclear if that package would include Slot's backroom team, with the 45-year-old set to bring assistant Sipke Hulshoff with him. Slot is also set to appoint coaches Ruben Peeters and Etiënne Reijnen.

Regardless of the discrepancy in valuations, Slot has become the third most-expensive appointment in Premier League history. Top spot is taken by Graham Potter after he left Brighton for Chelsea, with Leicester's move for Brendan Rodgers in second.

Slot will officially start work on June 1 and admits the opportunity to take over at Anfield was too big to turn down. He told Feyenoord's club website: "It is certainly not an easy decision to close the door behind you at a club where you have experienced so many wonderful moments and worked successfully with so many wonderful people.

"But as a sportsman, an opportunity to become a head coach in the Premier League, at one of the biggest clubs in the world, is difficult to ignore."

Liverpool.com says: There may be some disparity over the fee paid for Slot but his appointment is now finally secure. Liverpool fans can look ahead to pre-season with excitement, with a busy summer likely lying ahead. The Dutchman will be keen to hit the ground running at his new club.
