Which Liverpool games has David Coote officiated or been on VAR duty as referee suspended
The PGMOL has suspended referee David Coote and launched a full investigation after a video allegedly showing the referee making foul-mouthed comments about Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp leaked online.
The Premier League official is allegedly seen speaking with another person, and refers to Liverpool as a “s*** club” before describing former Reds boss Jurgen Klopp as a “c***”. A PGMOL spokesperson has said: “PGMOL are aware of a video circulating on social media and are investigating.”
Coote has been refereeing in the Premier League since April 2018, with the Nottinghamshire official having been involved in a number of Liverpool games over the years. His most recent assignment saw him take charge of the Reds’ 2-0 over Aston Villa at Anfield.

Coote caused controversy after seemingly waving away Leon Bailey’s challenge on Mohamed Salah in the build-up to Darwin Nunez’s opening goal. Salah looked to have been brought down by the Villa winger – who was the last man – as he raced toward goal, but Coote appeared to gesture that no foul had been committed.
The 42-year-old also drew the ire of Klopp following Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Arsenal at Anfield last season. The Reds’ penalty shouts were turned down by Chris Kavanagh after Martin Odegaard appeared to handle the ball in his own 18-yeard box. Coote, who was on VAR duty that day, deemed that the Arsenal captain had touched the ball while falling, which is not classed as an offense.
In total, Coote has been involved in 16 Liverpool games since 2019 as either the referee or VAR official. Here is the full list of his games:
