Liverpool has been given approval for the transfer of Napoli superstar Khvicha Kvaratskhelia despite the player's agent recently performing a U-turn on his situation at the Italian outfit.

The Reds continue to be linked with a move for the 23-year-old following another impressive season with Napoli but hopes of a move seem unlikely given that it would require a phenomenal fee to secure his services from the Serie A side. New boss Antonio Conte has also ‘vetoed’ a move for the Georgian.

It came not long after Kvaratskhelia's agent, Makuma Jugeli, and his father admitted that they wanted the winger to leave Napoli this summer. That was soon met with short shrift by the Italian club, who released a statement insisting that Kvaratskhelia would not be leaving, before Jugeli performed a bizarre U-turn suggesting his client could in fact sign a new contract in Naples.

Despite all that, Liverpool has been told that Kvaratskhelia would be the perfect fit in their system as they suit each other's style of play. Georgian assistant coach Adel Chedli said his countryman is a "top-end" player who would suit any Premier League team who plays fast, attacking football.

Speaking on Sky Sports News, Chedli said: “He’s a top-end player, so any high end Premier League club that plays that fast, attacking football - he has those attributes and qualities. For top teams in Europe, I have no doubts he will be a top additions for any of those clubs.

“He’s super, super talented. When you work with him close hand in training you see how good he is. And for me, he can go on and achieve great things in the game. He’s a phenomenal talent and a great person as well, he’s great to have around the camp, he just blends into the group as one of the other lads, a humble player but such a fierce attitude and determination to succeed - he’ll have an amazing career in the game for sure.”

The Reds were first linked with a move for Kvaratskhelia last year following a remarkable debut season for Napoli in 2022-23, helping the Italian outfit win its first league title for 33 years with 14 goals and 17 assists in 34 games. Now, following an impressive Euro 2024 with tournament debutant minnows Georgia, Liverpool's interest has been piqued once more.

As part of his U-turn on his clients situation, Jugeli has even hinted that his client will be signing a new contract in order to stay at Napoli, before conceding that everything depends on club president Aurelio De Laurentiis.

As reported by Corriere dello Sport, Jugeli said: "Kvaratskhelia without the Champions League? Then he wants to win the Scudetto. For the future everything depends on the president of Napoli. If he thinks of selling Kvara, he will do. If he wants the renewal, he will renew."
