Liverpool are great but I think Manchester United still have the Premier League edge

Former Manchester United and Everton striker Louis Saha has claimed Liverpool will not be as big a club as United even if they match their record of league titles. The Reds are currently five points clear at the top of the Premier League having beaten Aston Villa 2-0 at home on Saturday.

Liverpool currently stand on 19 championship wins, one adrift of the record United set when claiming their 20th crown way back in the 2012/13 season.

United are in 13th place after 11 games in the top flight going into the international break having recently sacked Erik ten Hag as manager and replaced the Dutchman with Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim.

But Saha is convinced the Old Trafford side will remain the bigger club regardless of any future success for Liverpool, who have won more trophies than any other English club.

“Even if Liverpool equal Manchester United’s league titles, I don’t think they will be as big a club," he said. "Liverpool are huge, but looking at the fanbases around the world there is no match for United.

“Imagine if United had the success that Manchester City or even Liverpool have had in recent years and think about how big that would’ve been around the world.

“The commercial aspect and range are enormous when it comes to United, the club has something very special about it and it’s completely unique."

Speaking to BoyleSports, who offer the latest Premier League odds, Saha said: “I love the way Liverpool are playing and they are great for the Premier League, but Manchester United still have the edge.”
