Liverpool returns to Premier League action in just over a week with the trip to Southampton and will play eight more fixtures after before Christmas. As a result, getting a few players back from injury will be a major boost.

Harvey Elliott was pictured training with the Reds' U21s earlier in the week as he continues his recovery from a fractured foot. He has been missing since the September internationals when he picked up the injury while representing England.

While Liverpool has not missed Elliott particularly in terms of results, he would have been a useful option to be able to rotate into the team and keep things fresher. Dominik Szoboszlai, for instance, would not have had to play as much, which could have improved his performances when he has featured.

No exact timeline has been placed on Elliott's return but with him being back on the grass, it would appear likely that he isn't too far away. Liverpool will be careful and might need to ease him back in but having an extra midfield option will be a big help.

Diogo Jota will be back "one or two weeks" after this international break, Arne Slot said in his press conference before the win over Aston Villa. The Portugal forward's exact issue is unknown but it looked to be a rib injury sustained in the game against Chelsea when he tried to play on before being replaced by Darwin Nunez.

One week would see him return against Manchester City. Two weeks would see Jota come back into the team for the game against Everton. Either way, it would be massive to have another goalscoring option available for another tricky run of matches.

Federico Chiesa has barely played since arriving from Juventus in the summer but he is still building up his fitness and a return date is unknown, while Alisson Becker has missed seven games. He has a hamstring injury sustained against Crystal Palace.

The Brazilian goalkeeper was being spoken about in the same manner as Jota — to return at some point after this international break but it remains to be seen exactly when. He did post a picture on social media this week of him in the gym as his rehab continues.

Finally, Trent Alexander-Arnold should be back by the time Liverpool plays Real Madrid and Manchester City. He could even feature against Southampton next weekend having avoided a major setback when he came off in the match against Aston Villa.
