Liverpool found a way to win against Southampton in the Premier League and now the attention can turn to huge matches against Real Madrid and Manchester City to complete this week.

Arne Slot had Mohamed Salah to thank for his side's 3-2 win over the Saints and that sets up more exciting fixtures. After this week, there is then a tricky-looking double-header against Newcastle and Everton, both away from home.

Currently, there are five senior players who are sidelined for Liverpool with Harvey Elliott having made his return to the matchday squad at St Mary's on Sunday. Kostas Tsimikas missed out with a minor issue but it doesn't appear that he will be out for too long, with Andy Robertson starting last time out which might have been the plan regardless.

Goalkeeper Alisson Becker is nearing a return from a hamstring injury but Slot said he expected Caoimhin Kelleher to be required for the remainder of this week when he spoke last Friday. Alisson, perhaps, could return against Newcastle or Everton.

Italian winger Federico Chiesa was in a part of training on Friday but wasn't fit enough for the matchday squad on the south coast. He is working his way back to full sharpness after missing pre-season and has only played 78 minutes in a Liverpool shirt to date.

Portugal forward Diogo Jota has been missing for much of the same period, increasing the demands placed on Darwin Nunez. There is no exact return date on him yet and he is yet to return to team training.

Finally, Trent Alexander-Arnold was missing at the weekend but Slot said last week that it could be between the games with Real Madrid and Manchester City that he returns. Slot will provide an update in a Champions League press conference tomorrow.
