Liverpool 'invited' player's agent to Anfield as Trent Alexander-Arnold transfer plan emerges
Liverpool reportedly invited Jeremie Frimpong’s agent to Anfield as they look for potential replacements for Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The Reds vice-captain’s future remains up in the air as the clock ticks down on his contract. As things stand, Alexander-Arnold will leave the club as a free agent in the summer, with his current deal expiring at the end of the current campaign.
The 26-year-old has been offered a new contract by Liverpool, along with Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah, although time could be running out for the Reds to strike a deal. Alexander-Arnold will be able to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club from next month unless he puts pen to paper at Anfield, and there’s little doubt about who will be at the front of the queue if he doesn’t.

Rumors are rife that a move to Real Madrid could be in the offing, with Los Blancos said to be looking at taking Alexander-Arnold on a free to the Bernabeu. That would leave Liverpool searching for a replacement for one of their biggest stars, although it’s suggested that they may have already made moves to secure one of their targets.
According to Bild’s Christian Falk, the Reds invited Frimpong’s agent to watch last month’s Champions League clash between Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen from Anfield’s director’s box. The Dutch international started that game for Xabi Alonso’s side, which the Reds won 4-0.
What’s more, Falk claims that Liverpool’s interest in Frimpong has been ‘confirmed’, with the club said to be talking with the player’s entourage. The 24-year-old is said to have a release clause worth $42m (£33m/€40m) in his contract in Germany.
It’s not the first time Frimpong has been linked with a move to Liverpool, and the former Manchester City youth player would appear to be a good option to replace Alexander-Arnold should the England international depart next summer, given his attacking prowess.
Liverpool though will hope the academy graduate will extend his stay at his hometown club, with Arne Slot insisting he isn’t worried about his, or Van Dijk and Salah’s, futures at this moment in time.
"It doesn't worry me, we just accept the situation as it is," Slot said during his press conference ahead of this weekend’s clash with Fulham. It's the same situation as it is, but they play at a very good club, they play really well at the moment, and hopefully we can keep it for a really long time like this."
