Liverpool didn't play over the weekend because of the weather causing the Merseyside derby to be postponed, but the Reds will quickly be back in action regardless, taking on Girona in the Champions League tomorrow.

Alexis Mac Allister is banned having picked up three yellow cards in Europe so far this season. He would have been banned for the Merseyside derby as well but that Premier League suspension now switches to the game with Fulham next weekend as a result of the postponement.

Ibrahima Konate, Conor Bradley and Kostas Tsimikas are the furthest players away from a return, Arne Slot said on Friday. That, of course, is not ideal with that trio making up three eighths of the Liverpool defense.

Joe Gomez and Jarell Quansah will need to step up and Trent Alexander-Arnold, still making his way back to 100 per cent sharpness after an injury of his own, will be required to stay fit too. Each of the five who are healthy will be played more than usual to cover the gaps, which could increase their chances of picking up issues.

Alisson Becker, Diogo Jota and Federico Chiesa are all nearing a comeback. Each has taken part in at least parts of training in the last few days. It remains to be seen whether or not any of the three will travel to Girona but Slot will offer an update on them during his press conference which is scheduled for 6.30pm UK time (1.30pm ET) today.

Liverpool.com says: Injuries are never spread out evenly across the team. Right now, Liverpool is a bit light of defensive options, which is why it was no bad thing that the Everton game was called off. By the time that match is rescheduled, there will perhaps be a few more options available again for Slot to choose from.
