Liverpool have been blessed with a sensational Egyptian star in their ranks for the past seven years as Mohamed Salah continues to light up their world at Anfield and beyond. Salah and Liverpool are at a crossroads right now as speculation over his future continues to mount - but there could be an ideal succession plan.

Along with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk, Salah only has a few months left to run on his contract. No extension has been agreed with any of the above - and they are free to speak with clubs overseas from January to potentially strike up a pre-arranged free transfer next summer.

The Liverpool ECHO understands Salah wants to stay put. However, as things stand, there is no clear sign of them working towards a breakthrough, while attentions from both parties are fixed firmly on the pitch. Liverpool - under new head coach Arne Slot - top the Premier League and revamped Champions League after a fantastic start.

Given that Manchester City and Arsenal aren't firing on all cylinders just yet, hope has been raised to belief around Anfield and Salah himself upped the ante this month when firing a firm message to Liverpool's title rivals. Although there are plenty of ifs, buts and maybes still to iron out, there is one scenario by which Salah spear-heads Liverpool to another famous title win before heading off - through a guard of honour - to pastures new.

But that's for a later day. While that speculation rumbles on, though, his international team-mate Omar Marmoush continues to be linked with a blockbuster move to Anfield himself.

Marmoush, 25, has earned rave reviews in Germany during spells at Wolfsburg, St. Pauli (loan), Stuttgart (loan) and Eintracht Frankfurt, with whom he has plundered 11 goals in 10 games so far this Bundesliga season. Several reports in the national media flag him up as a potential target for Liverpool with £50million cited as a would-be fee.

No more than paper talk, for now, the link to Liverpool is an obvious and romantic one. If he does eventually touch down at Anfield, though, Liverpool have a perfect transfer gift waiting for him.

Indeed, while the club's famous No.7 shirt is currently assigned to Luis Diaz - with Marmoush wearing that number for Frankfurt - some of the options he has worn previously are still up for grabs. The forward has worn No.25, No.29 and No.33 in the past - and all three of those jerseys are not being used by the Reds this season.

Marmoush has also regularly worn No.22 for his country. Calvin Ramsay does technically own that number, but the youngster is currently out on loan at Wigan Athletic.
