The summer transfer window is still yet to really kick into gear at Anfield, although the Reds are on the verge of something of a coup.

You’d have been hard-pressed to find many, if any, fans at Anfield who had heard of the name Rio Ngumoha before this week. Liverpool looks set to add yet another exciting young prospect to its books.

The 15-year-old has been tracked for some time now, and once his move to the academy at Kirkby is complete, he’s expected to get his chance with the club’s U18s for the 2024/25 season.

Liverpool’s gain is Chelsea’s loss, and if reports from the ECHO are to be believed, the Stamford Bridge club is furious. The Blues are said to be outraged at how Ngumoha has been allowed to leave for what will be a nominal fee for such a young player, while claims that the Reds have broken their wage structure to land the coup are thought to be wide of the mark.

There can be no denying though, Liverpool has done a great job of infuriating Chelsea over the last year or so. The Reds got the last laugh 12 months ago, with their transfer outlay far more impressive when compared to the stacks of cash the Blues threw around, particularly in the case of Moises Caicedo.

And even with the odds stacked heavily in their favor as Jurgen Klopp was forced to blood his youngsters at Wembley, Chelsea couldn’t get the better of their rivals, forcing Mauricio Pochettino to watch on as he lost another final to Liverpool.

Now with new managers at both helms, little has changed. Liverpool is once again showing its superiority with the signing of Ngumoha, and it may even have the chance to rub more salt into the wounds this summer.

According to BILD, Chelsea has set its sights on another player that might well interest Liverpool. The Blues are said to have made contact with Karim Adeyemi’s representatives, and are looking to open talks with Borussia Dortmund in the coming days.

The Champions League finalists are apparently open to selling the 22-year-old, particularly as they eye up deals for the likes of Jadon Sancho, Rayan Cherki and Serhou Guirassy. With a price of $32m (£25m/€30m) being reported, Liverpool’s interest could well be piqued.

The Reds have long been admirers of Adeyemi, having taken him on trial as a 16-year-old back in 2018. Back then, the club decided against meeting SpVgg Unterhaching’s demands, with Red Bull Salzburg then snapping him up for $3.2m (£2.5m/€3m).

Considering he has since gone on to become a German international, and of course played in a Champions League final just a couple of months ago, it might be fair to suggest Michael Edwards and co got that decision wrong six years ago. If nothing else, they would have made a tidy profit had it been decided down the line Adeyemi’s future was elsewhere.

Sky Germany has claimed the Reds are among the clubs interested in signing the winger this summer, which wouldn’t come as a surprise. After all, it seems Arne Slot is keen on bolstering his attacking options, especially considering the talks with Anthony Gordon.

Adeyemi would offer a much cheaper alternative, but no less exciting considering what he’s already shown so far in his career. What’s more, it would be an ideal opportunity to put Chelsea in its place again by hijacking any talks they might have planned.

It’s a deal that Liverpool has missed out on twice before, but this looks like the perfect chance to make it third time lucky, and leave the Blues fuming yet again.
