Liverpool 'prepared' to battle with Premier League rival for Martin Zubimendi alternative

Liverpool are reportedly prepared to go head-to-head with Tottenham to sign Jurrien Timber's brother Quinten ahead of the January transfer window. It's not the first time the 23-year-old has been linked with a move to the Premier League.

Football Transfer News have reported that Quinten is expected to leave Feyenoord either next month or at the end of the season - when he enters the final year of his contract. Liverpool are reported to have been monitoring the midfielder as a potential alternative to Martin Zubimendi.

Tottenham meanwhile, are said to be 'willing to offload' Yves Bissouma to sign Timber. Bissouma's inconsistent performances have reportedly frustrated fans in North London after his big money move from Brighton.

The report adds that manager Ange Postecoglou has 'already held discussions' with technical director Johan Lange over reinforcing their midfield and Quinten is thought to be an 'ideal fit.'

Most suited to the no.8 role in central midfielder, Quinten is said to be valued at around €15million (£12m).

Elsewhere, the Reds have been credited with an interest in River Plate youngster Franco Mastantuono, according to ESPN Argentina. He is regarded as one of the most exciting talents out of South America, having broken into the Argentinian first-team this season.

Besides Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Barcelona are said to be monitoring the 17-year-old. Meanwhile, Defesa Central state the Reds are 'ready' to trigger his release clause of £37.3m in a bid to get ahead of competition once the transfer window reopens in January.

Mastantuono was also subject of scouting from Barcelona during a Copa Libertadores clash back in October.
