Liverpool repeats Rio Ngumoha transfer trick after poaching Man City wonderkid

Liverpool has pulled off another transfer coup by successfully luring away teenage defender Lucas Clarke from Premier League title rivals Manchester City.

Born in 2008, 16-year-old Clarke has confirmed the move on social media, with the Reds now having repeated the transfer trick they produced when they convinced Rio Ngumoha to join Liverpool from Chelsea. Clarke will link-up with Liverpool's Academy sides.

Taking to Instagram to announce his move to Merseyside, Clarke wrote: "Delighted to have signed for @liverpoolfc can't wait to get started." He posted two photos of himself signing his contract in the Liverpool press room, as well as one holding a Liverpool shirt outside the AXA Training Center.

A left-sided defender, Clarke follows the likes of Ngumoha in swapping a Premier League rival for Liverpool. Last summer, the Reds persuaded Ngumoha to make the trip up north, with the talented young winger leaving Chelsea to join Liverpool.

Ngumoha's departure reportedly left the Blues seething, with Chelsea wanting desperately to keep ahold of the England youth international who has already trained with the first team on occasion under Arne Slot despite being just 16-years-old.

And alongside the recruitment of the likes of Ngumoha and Clarke, the Reds have also bolstered their youth team ranks in recent years by adding the likes of Trey Nyoni from Leicester City, Amara Nallo from West Ham United and Kornel Misciur from Hull City.

Liverpool.com says: "Liverpool has plenty of talented youngsters on their books right now which should excite Reds supporters. While the likes of Ngumoha and Trey Nyoni are featuring for Liverpool's youth team sides, they also have the likes of Ben Doak currently out on-loan at Middlesbrough in the Championship where he is thriving."
